Abstract

This study aims to systematically review the development of digital human capital in rural economies, with particular attention to its relationship with educational transformation and labor market readiness. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review method using the PRISMA approach to ensure a transparent and replicable article selection process. Data were obtained from the Scopus database through advanced searches using keywords related to digital human capital, educational digitalization, digital skills, rural economy, local development, and rural community. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 relevant articles were selected and synthesized to answer five research questions. The findings show that digital human capital in rural areas is a multidimensional concept that includes digital literacy, digital financial literacy, digital safety, digital ethics, self-efficacy, social support, and the ability to transform digital access into economic and social benefits. The review also reveals that infrastructure limitations, unequal connectivity, affordability, low digital skills, and weak institutional coordination remain major barriers. However, educational transformation through community training, digital mentoring, coding clubs, lifelong learning, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can strengthen rural communities’ readiness to participate in the digital economy. This study contributes by offering an integrated understanding of digital human capital as a foundation for inclusive rural development, educational innovation, and labor market adaptation in the digital era
