Abstract

The phenomenon of generation Z migration from villages to big cities is a crucial challenge in realizing inclusive and sustainable rural development. This research aims to explore the factors that drive generation Z migration from Cibeureum Village, Sukamantri Sub-district, Ciamis Regency, and explore locality-based talent retention strategies to strengthen the village's economic foundation. Using a qualitative approach, this research relies on in-depth interview techniques to gain a holistic contextual understanding of migration dynamics and local potential. The results show that the main drivers of migration include limited employment opportunities relevant to young people's interests and skills, limited digital infrastructure and creative expression spaces, and negative perceptions of village economic prospects. Retention strategies identified include strengthening community-based digital literacy, developing local entrepreneurial capacity, and creating an innovation ecosystem capable of accommodating the active participation of generation Z. The findings emphasize the importance of cross-sector collaboration in developing villages as prospective growth spaces for young talents.
