Abstract

Increasing waste generation and limited waste management capacity have highlighted the need for systems that not only reduce waste accumulation but also create economic value. TPST 3R Rempoah Village implemented a circular economy approach through Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation for organic waste treatment and through sorting and baling activities for recyclable inorganic waste. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of a maggot-based circular economy and inorganic waste processing innovations in generating economic added value at TPST 3R Rempoah Village. A descriptive qualitative method was employed. Informants were selected using purposive sampling and consisted of TPST managers, operational workers, and users of waste-derived products. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings showed that organic waste was transformed into fresh maggots, BSF eggs and livestock feed with market demand and commercial value. The sorting and baling of inorganic waste increased the economic value of recyclable materials, with a processing capacity of approximately one ton per day. The waste management system also created approximately 28 employment opportunities while promoting resource recovery and material recirculation. The study concludes that the circular economy practices implemented at TPST Rempoah successfully convert waste into productive economic resources, generating economic, social, and environmental benefits while strengthening the sustainability of community-based waste management systems.
